Sandra is affiliated with the Faculty of Art and History, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands and as ‘Lector Culturele en Maatschappelijke Vorming’ with the Amsterdam Polytechnic . She works on projects dealing with urban studies, cultural and ethnic diversity, citizenship, and community art. Her PhD research (Tilburg University, 2004) focused on lived citizenship and the location of diversity in the arts in Rotterdam and Manchester. More recently she has been researching the role of the arts in community formation and processes of urban (social) renewal and aims at understanding socially engaged arts practices as alternative citizenship models. Her most recent publication is Art and Social Commitment.
