Stut

Stut theatre company was founded in 1977 by playwright Jos Bours, director Marlies Hautvast and a few others. Since then, Stut has been facilitating the creation and production of plays with residents of working-class neighbourhoods in the fourth city of the country, Utrecht. Its plays are based on experiences, stories and attitudes of these residents. Stut Theatre has developed its own specific concept and method of ‘community-based theatre’ in the course of some 50 original productions. Stut’s plays are performed before audiences in the neighbourhoods from which these stories originate, in community centres, but also in the regular theatre circuit in Utrecht and beyond. The residents of the working-class areas are the actors of their own stories, performers in their own plays. Stut participates in ‘Living with Differences’ by sponsoring and coaching the project of young Turkish director Güner Güven.
